Le Gole Alcantara, spettacolo unico al mondo Sono delle gole alte fino a 25 metri e larghe nei punti più stretti 2 metri e nei punti più larghi 4-5 metri; il canyon naturale, a differenza di quanto comunemente si pensa, non è stato scavato nel corso di migliaia di anni dall'acqua. L'ipotesi più accreditata è legata ad eventi sismici che, con movimenti sussultorio-tettonici, fecero letteralmente spaccare in due vecchi laghi basaltici formatisi dalla fuoriuscita di magma dalle fessurazioni , vecchie di 300.000 anni, dei basamenti pre-etnei, consentendo all'acqua del fiume di insinuarsi al suo interno.
Questo fenomeno è evidenziato dal fatto che la struttura delle pareti è intatta e spigolosa.
Il Parco Botanico e Geologico delle Gole Alcantara permette di visitare questo spettacolo della natura in ogni momento dell’anno e nel massimo confort e sicurezza.
Famosa e conosciutissima la spiaggetta delle gole che si trova di fronte all’imbocco delle gole ed alla quale si può accedere facilmente tramite gli ascensori del Parco Botanico e Geologico o dalla scala del Comune di Motta Camastra .
La spiaggetta è accessibile fino a quando le condizioni meteo ed il livello delle acque lo permettono, quindi ad esclusione dei periodi invernali ed autunnali in corrispondenza delle prime piogge consistenti.
La parte interna del canyon è fruibile per un tratto iniziale di circa 25/50 mt a causa delle limitazioni di sicurezza vigenti e delle condizioni climatiche oltre al livello delle acque del fiume. La parte a valle delle Gole, ricca di laghetti, formazioni rocciose e cascatelle, è percorribile utilizzando le salopettes (disponibili in loco) che proteggono dalle acque gelide e che si noleggiano sul posto.
Alcantara's Gorges, unique spectacle in the World are 25 meters high and 2 metres wide at the narrowest and 4-5 meters at the wider; the natural canyons, unlike what is commonly believed, was not built over thousands of years by water. The most accredited hypothesis is related to seismic events that, with tectonic movements split in two old basaltic lakes formed from magma leaking from cracking, 300,000 years old, pre-etnean stands, allowing river water to creep inside. This is evidenced by the fact that the structure of the walls is intact and spiky.
Alcantara's Gorges Botanical and Geological Garden allows you to visit this spectacle of nature at any time of the year and with the maximum comfort and safety.
The famous and well known beach of the gorges that is in front of the entrance to the gorges and which can be accessed easily by the elevators of the Park or through the Botanical and Geological scale of the municipality of Motta Camastra.
The beach is accessible until the weather conditions and water levels permit, except during winter and autumn in correspondence of the first heavy rains.
The inner part of the canyon is usable for an initial section of about 25/50 meters due to the limitations of the current safety regulations and the climatic conditions in addition to the water level of the river. The downstream part of the Gorges, full of lakes, rock formations and waterfalls, can be visited using the overalls (available locally) that protect from the icy waters and which can be rented on site.
